At Kanoti, we’ve been designing games for really great clients like Tate, Channel 4, BBC and Historic Royal Palaces for years now. Over time we’ve developed a few processes to help us try and create the best games possible, borne out of a desire to try and pin down what can be a rather inexact science.
One major question we spend a lot of time debating is: what are the essential ingredients for a good game? To help us make the most successful game possible, we refer to a minimum of 10 central questions during the design process, summarised for you in this handy infographic:
These questions don’t necessarily provide a water-tight template for perfect game design, but we find them a useful starting point for defining what the game is going to feel like.
Please see our recent blog posts (here and here) for more detailed insights into our game production and evaluation methodologies. We’d love to hear from you if you’ve got any questions or comments on these processes, so please get in touch!

Start with No.9 – fork it over to the client, then deal with the rest once you’ve received their feedback.
